As a British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) C-permit holder, I work as the ringer in charge who (i) organises pre-breeding season mist-netting, (ii) performs standard ringing and biometric data collection of adults at nests and pulli of our target species, great tits (Parus major) and blue tits (Cyanistes caeruleus), (iii) applies PIT tags to identify tagged birds back at their nests and study their behaviour, and (iv) collects avian faecal samples. I am familiar with the study species as I previously researched predator presentations and parents’ cooperation behaviours in blue tits as part of my MSc thesis. Generally, I am interested in avian behaviour and cognition, and specifically captivated by parental care, movement ecology and foraging behaviour in Passeriformes and Procellariiformes.
